Sevilla announced on Friday evening the arrival of Schalke midfielder Johannes Geis on a season-long loan deal with an option to make the switch permanent next summer.
Geis has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal with Schalke but Sevilla have pledged as much as €9m (£8.2m) this summer in order to secure his services.
The Spanish side will play a €2m (£1.8m) loan fee before paying a further €7m (£6.4m) next summer to pip their European rivals to his signature on a permanent basis.
Sevilla have now signed nine players and invested nearly £60m into the squad this summer, as Eduardo Berizzo’s side look to bridge the gap between the top three sides.
Since August 2012, Geis has made more accurate cross than any other player in the Bundesliga (223).
