Sunderland striker set for AC Milan medical

Sunderland striker Fabio Borini will undergo his AC Milan medical on Thursday ahead of a £5.3m move to the Serie A giants, reports The Guardian.

Milan have been one of Europe’s biggest spenders this summer after being taken over by Chinese investors earlier in the year and have already spent in excess of £60m on four new players.

Vincenzo Montella’s side are showing no signs of reigning in their summer spending spree and are now on the verge of adding former Chelsea and Liverpool forward Borini to their offensive options.

Milan have successfully managed to hi-jack the deal from Lazio, who refused to match Borini’s £35,000-a-week wage demands, and the former Italy international is now set to become Montella’s fifth arrival of the summer.

Borini joined Sunderland on a permanent deal in 2015 but has gradually dropped out of contention since then and now the Black Cats, who were relegated to the Championship last season, are keen to get his wages off their books.

The 26-year-old only managed seven goals in 50 Premier League appearances during the last two years.
