Watford holding up Gueye's move to Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain have agreed a deal to sign Idrissa Gueye from Everton but the Toffees will not sanction his departure until they find a replacement, reports France Football.
Gueye has emerged as a top transfer target for PSG this month, as Thomas Tuchel desperately looks to bolster his midfield options for the second half of the season.
Adrien Rabiot has been frozen out by PSG after it emerged he will leave the club when his current deal expires at the end of the season, while Lass Diarra is reportedly set to retire.
Everton are reluctant to lose Idrissa Gueye but it was reported earlier this month that Marco Silva’s side would accept a bid in the region of £40m for the 29-year-old.
It would now appear PSG have met Everton’s demands but Gueye will not join Tuchel’s side until the Toffees find his replacement.
Everton are now trying to sign Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, who PSG were also interested in signing this month.
Doucoure has confirmed he wants to leave Watford but only for a club that can offer Champions League football.
Everton’s ambition is to break into the top four but they are still a long way off that, though a reunion with Silva may appeal to Doucoure.
While Everton are keen on the 26-year-old, they are not prepared to match Watford’s £50m asking price and that threatens to prevent Gueye from joining PSG.
Since the beginning of last season, only Leicester ace Wilfred Ndidi has completed as many tackles and interceptions combined as Gueye (both 299).
