Everton and West Ham in the hunt for Barcelona outcast

Everton are in pole position to sign Barcelona outcast Jasper Cillessen, claims Diaro Sport.

Cillessen is free to leave Barcelona this summer after failing to usurp Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in the pecking order for places at Camp Nou.

Benfica have already bid for the Netherlands international but the Portuguese side were unable to match Barcelona’s €25m asking price.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the 30-year-old as a potential replacement for David de Gea, who has entered the final 12 months of his current deal.

However, it has now emerged Everton and West Ham are Cillessen’s most likely destinations, with the former leading the race for his signature.

The potential arrival of Cillessen would raise serious question marks about the future of current No.1 Jordan Pickford, who Everton paid £30m for in 2017.

Cillessen would only sign for Everton with the knowledge of being Marco Silva’s first choice goalkeeper and there has been nothing this summer to suggest Pickford is off.

West Ham would be another curious place for Cillessen to end up given the performances of Lukasz Fabianski in his first season at the club last term.

Cillessen made nine appearances in all competitions last season but only managed two clean sheets and conceded 12 goals.

Furthermore, Cillessen made as many errors leading to an opposition goal as Ter Stegen in LaLiga last term despite playing 32 fewer games (both two).
