Zidane admits a deal for Fabregas is complicated

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane admits a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is complicated due to the number of players they currently have in the position.

Fabregas was dropped by Antonio Conte in his first match as Chelsea manager on Monday leading to speculation the Spain international could leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts.

Given the 29-year-old’s association with Barcelona, a potential deal to rivals Madrid would certainly cause a stir in his native Spain but Zidane admits it’s a move that could be beyond them.

“If you want to put another central midfielder into the mix then it becomes complicated,” ESPN quote Zidane as saying.

“Cesc is a great player but it is not very straightforward. I am going to end up with a squad where three of four players do not get selected. To therefore put another player in there makes it difficult.”

In the last three Premier League campaigns only two players have won possession more in the midfield third than Fabregas (282).
