Inter plot audacious move for Real Madrid star

Inter want to bolster their midfield options with a big name and dream of prising Luka Modric away from Real Madrid, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Serie A giants have already signed six players this summer but aren’t finished there and have even made contact with Modric’s agent.

After completing the loan signing of Sime Vrsaljko from Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, Inter now have three Croatian’s in their squad, which could work in their favour in pursuit of Modric.

Modric is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world and is understood to be open to a potential switch, although Inter still have a deal in the pipeline for Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean midfielder is free to leave Bayern this summer and Inter will press ahead with a deal for the 31-year-old if Modric is completely out of reach, which they expect to find out in the coming days.

Having already lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this summer, it would be a further blow to Madrid president Florentino Perez if Modric pushes for a move away, but there is also a theory the 32-year-old could be angling for a better deal.

Modric enjoyed a stunning 2018 World Cup campaign and was awarded the FIFA Golden Ball, despite the fact Croatia lost to France in the final. Had Croatia triumphed, there would have been a real case for Modric to win the next Ballon d’Or.

Of players that have attempted at least 100 dribbles in the last three La Liga campaigns, only Mateo Kovacic (80.4%), Andres Iniesta (77.8%) and Toni Kroos (77%) have a better success rate than Modric (76.5%).
