Manchester United ready to bid for England’s World Cup hero Harry Maguire
Manchester United want to sign Leicester defender Harry Maguire and will have to pay as much as £50m for his services, claims The Daily Mail.
Maguire has enjoyed an outstanding World Cup campaign for England this summer and Leicester are now bracing themselves for bids from their Premier League rivals.
Claude Puel’s side want to reward Maguire with a bumper new deal in order to secure his long-term future but now United are ready to test their resolve.
Maguire only joined Leicester from Hull in a £17m deal 12 months ago and United are willing to pay as much as three times that amount in order to sign the 25-year-old.
Jose Mourinho wants to sign a new centre-back for the third summer in a row and had hoped to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham.
However, their Premier League rivals have dug their heels in during talks and United have earmarked Maguire as their new first choice target.
Maguire has been a revelation for England this summer, proving particularly lethal from attacking set-pieces. In fact, only Raheem Sterling (22) has touched the ball more times in the opposition penalty area than Maguire (20) of all England players at the 2018 World Cup.
