Danilo holding up Manchester City’s deal for Juventus right-back Cancelo
Talks between Manchester City and Juventus for Joao Cancelo have stalled, claims Calciomercato.
City manager Pep Guardiola has earmarked Cancelo as a top transfer target this summer in order to provide competition with current first choice right-back Kyle Walker.
Juventus are open to Cancelo’s departure just 12 months after signing the Portugal international but are holding out for €60m (£53.7m) for his signature.
City are trying to lower Juventus’ asking price but in any case they cannot sign Cancelo until they find a buyer for Danilo.
The Premier League champions have unsuccessfully tried to use Danilo as a makeweight in talks with Juventus and are struggling to find any suitors at present.
Even though City remain some way off Juventus’ asking price for Cancelo, a deal will not progress any further until they offload Danilo.
Cancelo finished his first year at Juventus in the WhoScored Team of the Season in Serie A (7.20 rating).
Furthermore, only Jeremie Boga (3.3) and Josip Ilicic (2.5) averaged more dribbles per game than Cancelo (2.4) in Serie A last term.
