Barcelona have made an enquiry to the agent of Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak to find out about his availability this summer, according to El Mundo Deportivo.
Luis Enrique’s side could be forced to sound out a new central defender should they fail to keep hold of Javier Mascherano amid reports he has agreed terms with Juventus.
Barcelona have a history of converting a midfielders into central defenders in recent years following the transformation of Yaya Toure and Mascherano and are interested in making Krychowiak the latest one to make the switch.
Krychowiak, 26, still has three years remaining on his current deal, which includes a but is nearing the time where Sevilla will look to begin contract talks to extend his stay at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Since the start of last season only two players have completed more tackles and interceptions combined in La Liga than Krychowiak (384).
