Leeds announce club-record arrival of Valencia striker Rodrigo

Leeds have confirmed the club-record arrival of Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno in a deal worth £30m.

The newly promoted Premier League outfit have eclipsed the record fee paid for Rio Ferdinand in 2000 in order to land the Spain international.

Rodrigo, who was heavily linked with a January move to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal running until the summer of 2024.

Valenica are in financial turmoil and have reluctantly been forced to sell Rodrigo for half the money they were holding out for at the start of the year.

Given Patrick Bamford's struggles in the Premier League in the past, Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa knew he needed a new first choice striker this summer.

Leeds are gearing up for their first taste of Premier League football in 16 years and Rodrigo's arrival is a major statement of intent.

Though Rodrigo's arrival doesn't guarentee Leeds goals, as the Spaniard only netted four times in 27 league appearances for Valencia in 2019/20.

Rodrigo, who bizarrely spent a season on loan with Bolton in 2010/11 where he scored one goal in 17 league games, has only scored 39 goals in 189 appearances in Europe's top five leagues in his career and 41% were scored in one season (17/18).
