Middlesbrough have pulled out of a deal to sign Jordan Rhodes, reports the Telegraph.

The Championship favourites had been heavily linked with a move for the Blackburn Rovers striker, with a deal supposedly close to completion in recent days.

However, on Sunday Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson pulled the plug on the deal, despite Rhodes agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The 25-year-old striker, who had been expected to fetch Blackburn £9m, has been in commendable goalscoring form for the Championship side this season, with 10 goals to his name from 25 league appearances.
