Manchester United target refuses to rule out Paris Saint-Germain switch
Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League but has put rivals Paris Saint-Germain on red alert after refusing to rule out a switch to the Ligue 1 giants.
Bakayoko, 22, has put injury concerns behind him this season and has arguably been one of the best players in Ligue 1, playing an integral part in Monaco’s ascent to the top of the league.
The combative midfielder’s performances have caught the attention of the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, who are both weighing up a summer move, but they could miss out after Bakayoko hinted where his future could be.
“I was born and I lived all my youth in Paris,” Culture PSG quote the midfielder as saying. “If the opportunity presents itself, I would not refuse to sign for PSG. But, I’m only 22 years old and I feel very good in Monaco.”
Bakayoko’s current deal is due to expire in 2019 and his stock could rise significantly with a good performance in the first leg of Monaco’s last 16 clash with Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Chelsea and United have already been mooted with €40m (£33.9m) moves for the central midfielder but the asking price could quickly increase with a strong showing in Europe’s premiere competition.
In Ligue 1 this season only Benjamin Andre (163) and Julien Feret (139) have won possession in the midfield third more times than Bakayoko (124).
