Sevilla have announced Manchester City and Juventus target Steven N’Zonzi has put pen to paper on a new two-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until 2020.
City and Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for the former Stoke City midfielder this month following his sensational start to the season but both will now have to look elsewhere in their pursuit of a new midfield maestro.
Pep Guardiola had identified N’Zonzi as the ideal midfielder to carry out the role Sergio Busquets did so successfully during his time as Barcelona manager and a £25m release clause had made the Frenchman extremely accessible for the Premier League outfit.
However, N’Zonzi, whose previous deal was due to expire in 2019, has added another 12 months to his stay at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, although it remains to be seen whether the club have moved to cancel the buy-out clause that existed in his original contract.
No player averages more passes per game in La Liga this season than N’Zonzi (76.9).
