Marseille confident of signing Arsenal striker

Marseille believe they are at the front of the queue to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal this summer despite interest from other Premier League sides, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Giroud, 30, looks destined to leave the north London outfit following the club-transfer record arrival of France international teammate Alexandre Lacazette.

The 30-year-old only signed a new contract with Arsenal at the start of the year but has already made it clear he is not interested in spending another season on the bench with the 2018 World Cup around the corner.

West Ham and Everton are reportedly interested in signing the Arsenal frontman, but Marsielle, who were regularly linked with a move for Giroud throughout last season, are confident they will be the ones signing the experienced striker if he leaves the Emirates.

A move to big spenders Marseille would allow Giroud to return to France to play club football for the first time since 2012. Any side looking to lure the Frenchman away from Arsenal can expect to pay in excess of £20m.

Despite only making 11 starts in the Premier League last season, Giroud still weighed in with 12 goals and three assists. In fact, of players that netted at least 10 times, only Harry Kane (1 every 87.3 minutes of action) required fewer minutes per goal than Giroud (1 every 99.5 minutes).
