Inter appoint former Roma manager

Inter have announced former Roma manager Luciano Spalletti as Stefano Pioli’s long-term successor on a two-year deal.

The Serie A giants have been looking for a new manager since sacking Pioli in May and replacing him with Stefano Vecchi, who saw the rest of the season out on an interim basis.

Inter were desperate to hand Chelsea manager Antonio Conte a way back to Italy, while also missing out on Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone before eventually handing the role to Spalletti.

The 58-year-old was sacked as Roma manager for the second time in his career at the end of last month but was in China this week to discuss the Inter job with their owners.

Spalletti will be tasked with improving on the seven place finish Inter achieved last season and getting the Italian giants back in the Champions League. Inter will also hope Spalletti can bring some stability back to the club after going through four different managers in the last 12 months.
