Newcastle United will have to look elsewhere for a new striker this move after Chelsea blocked Loic Remy from leaving the club in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.
Steve McClaren’s side had been leading the race to sign the France international and there had also been interest from Aston Villa and Crystal Palace for his signature.
Remy, who joined Chelsea from Queens Park Rangers in August 2014, has struggled to make any impact at the club despite being a regular scorer when featuring and looked destined to move away this month.
However, the France international will not be returning for a second spell at Newcastle after new manager Guus Hiddink instructed the Chelsea board to block any transfer that would see the 29-year-old leave the club.
Remy has perhaps never been given a fair run in the Chelsea team, particularly when Diego Costa has struggled. In fact, no Chelsea player has required fewer minutes per goal in the Premier League than Remy (101.4 mins) since the start of last season.
