United eye up shock move for Bundesliga defender

Manchester United have made Wolfsburg defender Naldo one of their summer transfer targets, according to Kicker.

Naldo, 33, will only have one-year remaining on his current deal at the Volkswagen Arena in the summer and would be available for a cut-price.

The Brazilian defender has been one of the first names on the Wolfsburg team sheet since he made the move from Werder Bremen in 2012 and he was particularly impressive against United in the Champions League group stages earlier this season, where he scored his only two goals of the season.

United are expected to strengthen their defence once more in the summer but it would still be a surprise to see the Red Devils move for a player of Naldo’s age.

Naldo has scored more goals than any other central defender in the Bundesliga since the start of August 2012 (16), but he is yet to score in the league this season. In fact, no player has had more shots without finding the back of the net this season in Germany’s top-flight than the Wolfsburg captain (40).
