Watford set to sign Fiorentina midfielder

Watford director Nicola Salerno has confirmed they are on the verge of signing Mario Suarez from Fiorentina for £4.1m plus bonuses.

The Hornets had been strongly linked with a move for the former Atletico Madrid midfielder earlier in the window but interest seemed to fade.

However, they have since resurrected their interest in Suarez and are expected to announce his capture before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Suarez, 28, only joined Fiorentina in the summer but he has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular and is now set for his Watford medical.

“It’s true, we have found a breakthrough [to sign Suarez], but there are still some details to sort out,” the Watford chief told Radio Bruno in Italy.

“Tomorrow he should be here and we can finalise everything along with the medical. We did it.

“Is the fee €5.5m plus bonuses? Yes, that’s more or less accurate, but we have to wait because we haven’t made it official yet.”
