Swansea bid for Napoli forward rejected

Swansea have had a £14.1m bid for Napoli forward Manolo Gabbiadini, according to The Guardian.

The Premier League strugglers are still without an official manager since sacking Garry Monk at the start of December but are desperate to strengthen their frontline, nonetheless.

Doubts have been cast over the futures of Bafetimbi Gomes and Andre Ayew, who combined have scored 11 of Swansea’s 17 league goals this season and Swansea are keen to avoid going down this year with Premier League clubs set to profit from the increased TV revenue from next the start of next season.

Signing Gabbiadini, however, would not guarantee goals for Alan Curtis’ side. Admittedly, the 24-year-old has been forced to play understudy to Gonzalo Higuain this season, but he has still only scored once this season from nine appearances in Serie A and has never scored more than nine league goals in a single campaign over the last seven years.

Napoli are believed to be willing to sell the Italy international, but are holding out for £16m. Swansea could be hampered by the fact the former Sampdoria forward would prefer to remain in Italy where he will get more attention from Italy head coach Antonio Conte ahead of the European Championships this summer.

Gabbiadini has been afforded more playing time in the Europa League, however. In fact, only two Napoli players have scored more goals in Uefa’s second competition this season than him (4).
