Manchester United are set to be without Eric Bailly for the foreseeable future after suffering knee ligament damage in their defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Bailly, 22, limped off after 52 minutes of United’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea with a knee problem and is set to undergo tests on Tuesday to find out the true extent of the injury.
However, United are already bracing themselves for bad news after Jose Mourinho revealed the early prognosis looks bad.
“He is injured and I am afraid it is a bad injury. It is in his knee, the ligament area. He feels it is really bad,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
The Ivory Coast international was Mourinho’s first signing as United manager and has made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford.
The former Villarreal centre-back, who joined for £30m over the summer, has arguably made the best impression of all four of Mourinho’s summer signings.
Only two players have won possession more times in defensive third in the Premier League this season than Bailly (41).
