Liverpool defender suffers serious injury setback

Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne will be sidelined for a further three months after undergoing back surgery on Monday, reports Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old has not featured for Liverpool at all this season after first sustaining the injury in pre-season.

Liverpool already knew that Clyne would not feature during the first half of the season after leaving him out of their Champions League group stage squad.

However, Jurgen Klopp could now be without Clyne until February after the England international underwent minor surgery to correct a new problem in his back.

Clyne’s prolonged absence will only benefit youngsters Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will continue to share the responsibility at right-back.

In fact, 20-year-old Gomez currently occupies a position in the WhoScored Premier League Team of the season (7.11).
