Manchester United sign ex-Paris Saint-Germain striker Cavani

Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as their new No.7 on a free transfer.

Cavani has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Red Devils with a break clause for both player and club at the end of the season.

United have reportedly handed Cavani wages in the region of £200,000-a-week, within their wage structure, and agreed agent fees less than €10m.

Cavani has been a free agent since he left PSG in July and had been linked with moves to Benfica and Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer.

Neither club were willing to sanction the agent fees being demanded by Cavani's representatives and United have managed to lower them for their deadline day swoop.

Cavani will have the chance to face former club PSG in his second game for the club and feels he has a point to prove after being axed by the Ligue 1 outfit last season.

With Anthony Martial now suspended following his red card at the weekend, Cavani will likely make a full debut in United's first game back from the international break.

The Uruguay international will be an alternative to Martial throughout the season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes he will have a positive impact on the younger strikers like Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Cavani left PSG in the summer after seven years at the club and finished his time there as their all-time record scorer with 200 goals.
