Marseille announce arrival of Monaco striker

Marseille have made their first signing of the summer after announcing Valere Germain’s arrival from Monaco on a four-year deal.

The 27-year-old only had two years remaining on his Monaco contract and has sealed a move back to his city of birth following the emergence of Kylian Mbappe and Radamel Falcao’s return to full fitness.

Germain, who has spent the last 12 years at Monaco, often captained the side during Falcao’s absence but the striker has now sealed a move to Marseille where he will follow in the footsteps of his father and don the colours of the historic Ligue 1 outfit.

Despite the emergence of Falcao and Mbappe as Monaco’s main strike force during their title-winning campaign last season, Germain still managed to start 27 league games for Leonardo Jardim’s side.

In fact, he weighed in with 10 goals and three assists in that time and played more than a bit part role in the club’s first league title since 2000. Furthermore, in the last two Ligue 1 campaigns only four players have scored more goals than Germain (24).
