Newcastle eye ambitious move for Borussia Dortmund striker
Newcastle want to prise Paco Alcacer away from Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season, claims The Sun.
Dortmund only signed Alcacer on a permanent deal from Barcelona 12 months ago but the Spain international has fallen out of favour at the club this season.
Alcacer has struggled to stay fit for prolonged periods and has now dropped below January signing Erling Haaland in the pecking order.
The 26-year-old will need regular playing time from now until the end of the season to make Spain's squad for Euro 2020.
Steve Bruce is desperate to sign a new striker to ease the burden on club-record signing Joelinton and has earmarked Alcacer as his top target.
The Newcastle manager wants to take Alcacer on a six-month loan deal with an option to make the switch permanent in the summer.
Alcacer was a revelation for Dortmund last season with 18 goals in 26 league appearances for the club but has only started six Bundesliga games so far this term.
Of players that have made at least five Bundesliga appearances since the beginning of last season, Alcacer has the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the division (one every 75.2 minutes of action).
