Paris Saint-Germain midfielder admits frustrations this season

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak has conceded his first season at the club has not gone according to plan but is determined to prove himself before the campaign finishes.

Krychowiak, 27, joined manager Unai Emery from leaving Sevilla to join PSG over the summer but injuries and loss of form has made for slow progress for the Poland international.

The 27-year-old’s impact has been so limited that he is already being linked with a move away from PSG in the summer and the defensive midfielder admits he needs to play better over the remaining three months of the season.

“I am in a difficult situation. But other good players have experienced things like this,” he told Polish outlet Sport, via Get French Football. “In truth, not everything has happened the way it was expected, but it is a test that I must pass.

“I will work and wait for my chances. I am trying not to get down, to stay optimistic. It is the first time in my career that I have a problem like this. I am trying to work like before. As I did when I was playing at Sevilla or for Poland in Euro 2016.

"I cannot change the way I approach my job, even if this test is difficult. It is frustrating. But when I ask myself question about my situation at PSG, I always find the answers on the pitch. I need to show that I am better.”

Krychowiak has only managed six league starts for PSG this season and has been sidelined since before Christmas, although is poised to be handed the chance to impress this weekend as Emery looks to rotate his squad ahead of their Champions League clash with Barcelona next week.

However, first team opportunities may be hard to come by for the Pole as PSG have excelled in his absence, winning 71.4% of league matches he has not started compared to just half when he has been included from the off
