Zinedine Zidane has barely had his feet under the table as Real Madrid’s new manager but the club icon has already earmarked Barcelona target Paul Pogba as the player he wants to be at the heart of his team, according to Spanish paper AS.
Pogba, 22, has been tipped as a future Ballon d’Or winner and has been linked with most of Europe’s elite clubs since becoming one of the most revered midfielders at Juventus.
The France international has been heavily linked with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the past, but both could now miss out with Madrid set to enter the race for the former Manchester United academy graduate.
Madrid president Florentino Perez has previously endured frustrating dealings with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola, but he would have to bin any ill feeling if he is to land Zidane’s number one transfer target at the end of the season.
Of players to have attempted at least 75 dribbles across Europe’s top five leagues this season, only Lionel Messi (70%) has a better success rate than Pogba (65.4%).
