Chelsea not willing to match £30.8m deal for Real Madrid fringe player

Chelsea have been told they will need to pay £30.8m to sign Real Madrid defender Danilo, reports the London Evening Standard.

Antonio Conte is keen to sign another defender that can play at right wing-back and provide competition with Victor Moses but Chelsea are only willing to pay £28m for the Brazilian.

Danilo is free to leave Madrid this summer if he wants to find regular first-team football after failing to establish himself at the Santiago Bernabeu since joining from Porto for £27m in 2015.

Juventus were in talks with Madrid for the 25-year-old but the Serie A champions were also unwilling to meet Madrid’s transfer demands and any potential deal collapsed after they filled their final non-EU spot with the signing of Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa.

Despite only making 17 appearances in La Liga last season, Danilo finished the 2016/17 campaign as one of Madrid’s highest rated players. In fact, only Toni Kroos (7.67), Cristiano Ronaldo (7.61) and Gareth Bale (7.49) secured a higher WhoScored rating than the Brazilian (7.41).
