Manchester United preparing to go back in for Serie A duo
Manchester United are hoping to bolster their squad with a number of new signings this summer and are ready to return for two top targets from windows gone by to do so, according to The Mirror.
Jose Mourinho is unhappy with his squad in a number of areas and was scathing of some of his players’ performance levels again this weekend.
Paul Pogba’s current situation is unclear under the Portuguese, with reports suggesting he could be looking for a new club before long, and the midfield area is one which Mourinho is keen to strengthen.
Pogba’s compatriot Blaise Matuidi is thought to be high on the wish list at Old Trafford last summer having made a positive impression since signing for Juventus, while it’s United’s local rivals that remain favourites to sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred.
The former PSG midfielder has started 19 of 29 league games for the Serie A leaders this season and has had a big impact on their defensive resolve, conceding just seven goals in said starts compared to eight in ten when he hasn’t been in the first XI.
Meanwhile Ivan Perisic is still on the Red Devils’ radar, with the Croatian playing an important role for Inter once again this season. He ranks second in the team’s rankings for both goals (seven) and assists (six) in this league campaign and seventh in the entire division for shots per game (3.2).
