Ajax have confirmed Frank de Boer has stepped down as manager sparking suggestions he could replacement Roberto Martinez as Everton boss.
De Boer, 45, leaves Ajax following six years as manager where he led the Dutch giants to four league titles.
However, Ajax missed out on a fifth title in six years in dramatic circumstances on the final day of the season last weekend and they are now looking for a new manager following De Boer’s departure.
Reports have emerged suggesting De Boer is a candidate to replace Everton manager Martinez. The Spaniard has overseen a disastrous campaign at Goodison Park and their 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on Wednesday has fuelled suggestions he could be sacked before the final game of the season on Sunday.
No team has conceded fewer goals than Ajax in the Dutch top-flight this season (21), which could appease Everton fans who have seen continuous defensive mishaps all season (55 goals conceded in the Premier League).
