Juventus eye move for Tottenham boss Pochettino

Juventus have earmarked Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as a top target to replace departing manager Massimiliano Allegri, claims The Independent.

The Old Lady have confirmed Allegri will step down as Juventus head coach this summer after five years in charge of the club.

Allegri had another year remaining on his current deal but will manage Juventus for the final time when they finish their league campaign this weekend.

Juventus won the league in all five of Allegri’s seasons in charge but never triumphed in the Champions League.

The Serie A giants were twice losing finalists in Europe but were eliminated from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage this term.

Juventus broke the bank to prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Real Madrid last summer and this season is seen as a failure.

Under-pressure Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is another Premier League boss linked with the Juventus hot-seat but now Pochettino is also in their sights.

The 47-year-old is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe and has remarkably guided Tottenham to the Champions League final this season.

Tottenham last signed a player in January 2018 and Pochettino has already hinted at leaving the club if they beat Liverpool in next month’s final.

Pochettino is no longer willing to work on a restricted budget and Juventus are willing to offer him the keys to everything he craves.

Wanting Pochettino and getting Pochettino will prove two completely different things, however, as the Argentine has four years left to run on the contract he signed in May last year.

It was suggested Manchester United would have to pay in the region of £40m to prise Pochettino away from Tottenham when they were on the market for Jose Mourinho’s successor back in December.

In five years in charge of Tottenham, Pochettino has impressively won 56.4% of his matches in all competitions and is thought to be the glue that is holding the club together.

Tottenham supporters fear that Pochettino’s departure could lead to a mass exodus of players, including the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min.

Pochettino has not yet won a trophy during his time at Tottenham, which is a black mark against his name, but will have the chance to change that in next month’s Champions League final.
