Manchester City are monitoring Augsburg left-back Philipp Max as Pep Guardiola ponders signing a new defender in January, claims The Daily Mail.
Guardiola has been forced to play Fabian Delph at left-back since Benjamin Mendy suffered a season-ending injury back in September.
Delph has flourished for City in that time but Guardiola is still interested in signing a recognised left-back to bolster their chances of success in the second half of the campaign.
Guardiola sent scots to watch Max in Augsburg’s 3-3 draw with Freiburg on Saturday where the 24-year-old registered his ninth assist of the campaign.
In fact, Max has made more assists than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season, which is all the more remarkable when you consider he is a left-back.
