Spurs to break the bank to retain key man

Tottenham are set to offer manager Mauricio Pochettino a club record £5.5m-a-year five-year deal in order to keep him at White Hart Lane, reports the Daily Mail.

Pochettino is less than two years into a five-year deal signed when he took charge of Spurs, but his good work in north London has seen his stock rise significantly.

Manchester United reportedly remain keen on taking Pochettino to Old Trafford, despite constant links with Jose Mourinho, who is still interested in the job.

However, Spurs are now keen on warding off interest in the 44-year-old and will offer him a bumper contract to convince him his future lies in north London.

Spurs are currently second in the Premier League table and will look to keep the pressure on table toppers Leicester with the welcome of Manchester United on Sunday.
