Manchester United vs Liverpool lineups: McTominay replaces sidelined Matic
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is without Phil Jones, Anthony Martial and Nemanja Magic as United prepare to face Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Norwegian has been forced to change the lineup that performed so impressively at Chelsea last Monday, with the Serbian ruled out of action and replaced by Scott McTominay.
The young Scotland international started this fixture last season alongside Matic as United ran out 2-1 winners but the 22-year-old hasn’t started a Premier League game since December 1st.
Elsewhere Juan Mata keeps his place in the side followed a spirited performance against his former club, but there is no place for Romelu Lukaku, who drops to the bench following the return from injury of Jesse Lingard.
As far as Liverpool are concerned there is also one surprise omission from Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Trent Alexander-Arnold dropping to the bench and James Milner reporting for duty at right-back.
The only other change sees Virgil van Dijk back in the side having missed the Champions League stalemate with Bayern Munich.
The Dutchman’s return to the team allows Fabinho to push forward into his more favoured defensive midfield role, while captain Jordan Henderson retains his place to make the 300th Premier League appearance of his career.
