Euro 2016 Magazine: Sigurdsson talks up Iceland’s Euro chances

Iceland will become the smallest country to participate at a European championship when they face Portugal on June 14 and their talismanic creator-in-chief Gylfi Sigurdsson spoke exclusively to WhoScored.com in the build up to Euro 2016.

The expanded format in qualifying was seen as an opening for the lesser nations to experience a major tournament but when Iceland were drawn in a group alongside Turkey, Czech Republic and the Netherlands, not many thought they stood a chance. Instead they qualified second, only two points behind Czech Republic and a staggering seven points ahead of the Netherlands.

In this interview Sigurdsson spoke with great confidence about his country and what I means to Iceland to qualify for their first major tournament in their history. Not only that, but the Swansea star is adamant they are not in the tournament to make up the numbers but go as far as they possibly can.
