Zinedine Zidane has confirmed Real Madrid tried to sign Paul Pogba before Manchester United beat them to the former Juventus midfielder.
United ended up paying a world-record breaking £89m to sign the France international from Juventus in the summer after a long drawn out saga.
Pogba, 23, has struggled to hit the ground running upon his return to Old Trafford and Zidane has confirmed the European Champions had tried to sign the Frenchman first.
“It could have happened [Madrid sign Pogba],” Zidane told French radio station Team Duga, via The Daily Mail. “There were conversations to sign him [this summer].”
No player has had more shots off target in the Premier League this season than Pogba (15).
