Manchester United open talks with Pogba over new deal

Manchester United are ready to open talks with Mino Raiola about renewing Paul Pogba's contract, claims The Daily Mail.

Pogba has entered the final year of his current United contract and had hoped to leave the Red Devils for the second time in his career this summer.

However, Pogba has returned to United post-lockdown revitalised and enjoying his football again, with head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a main driving force behind that.

The impact made by January arrival Bruno Fernandes has also helped get Pogba back on track at United and now he is open to signing a new long-term deal with the club.

While United have an option to extend Pogba's existing terms by a further 12 months, they now plan to discuss a new long-term deal with his agent, Raiola.

At the start of the year Pogba seemed destined to leave United when ankle surgery ruled him out for most of, if not all season.

However, the coronavirus pandemic allowed the 27-year-old to recover and return to first-team action last month to help United secure a top four finish.

Pogba has already accepted a summer move away to the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid is unlikely due to financial impact of the global outbreak.

Despite only starting a few games with each other, the relationship between Pogba and Fernandes already looks a special one that can take United back to domestic glory.

Pogba has garnered a WhoScored rating in all five of his appearances post-lockdown, all the more impressive when you consider he was only on the pitch for 12 minutes against Norwich.
