Manchester United defender signs new deal

Manchester United have announced Marcos Rojo has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal running until 2021.

Rojo’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season but Jose Mourinho has sanctioned a new contract for the Argentina international.

United also have the option to extend Rojo’s new deal by a further 12 months and Mourinho is full of praise for the 27-year-old.

“Marcos has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of seasons, and has always shown great professionalism,” Mourinho told the club’s official website.

“Although his injury has kept him sidelined over these past few weeks, Marcos is working hard to return to full fitness. He is always ready to put his body on the line for this club and I am delighted he has signed a new contract.”

Rojo joined United from Sporting in 2014 and endured a turbulent few years under previous manager Louis van Gaal.

However, the Argentine developed into a key player during Mourinho’s first season in charge before a serious knee injury in April ruled him out for most of 2017.

In fact, United have only lost one of the 24 Premier League matches Rojo has started under Mourinho.
