Swansea interested in Everton outcast

Swansea interim manager Alan Curtis has confirmed the club are interested in signing Everton forward Steven Naismith.

Naismith, 29, has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park this month, with Norwich among those clubs looking to land the Scotland international.

Norwich had looked set to sign the Everton striker, but talks appear to have stalled and Curtis’ side are now looking to take advantage and hi-jack the deal.

“I think he’s on the list [of transfer targets],” the Swansea boss is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

“I know he’s a player available – he’s an excellent player. Like all good players, if we can afford to bring him in, then we will be interested.

“We’re still looking for that main striker. Steve is probably someone who plays just behind the main striker but someone we will be interested in.”

Swansea are precariously placed one point above the bottom three and are in desperate need of strengthening this month, particularly after offloading Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle.

Naismith isn’t a player that has featured heavily this season, despite coming off the bench to score a hat-trick against Chelsea at the start of the season.

In fact, the Scottish forward hasn’t completed 90 minutes since September 19 and has failed to score since netting three against the reigning Premier League champions a week prior to that.
