West Brom announce arrival of new £10m midfielder

West Brom have announced they have signed Jake Livermore from Premier League rivals Hull for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £10m.

Tony Pulis has been keen to sign a new central midfielder this month and the Baggies have turned their attentions to Livermore after missing out on Morgan Schneiderlin, who joined Everton from Manchester United for an initial £20m.

Livermore, 27, who passed his medical examination on Thursday, has agreed terms on a four-and-a-half-year deal with West Brom and is available to make his debut when they host Sunderland on Saturday.

“Craig Gardner leaving left us short of a certain type of midfield player,” Pulis told West Brom’s official website. “And in Jake we have brought in a very, very good player.

“I watched him a lot when he was at Tottenham and thought he would go on to establish himself as a top six player. Maybe he has just drifted away a little from that – although having said that two promotions and a cup final with Hull should not be forgotten.

“But I believe this lad is a very, very good player and I’m delighted we’ve got him.”

Livermore has been an ever-present in the Hull starting XI this season and his departure will be a real blow in their bid to beat the drop this season, although it was a deal they could not refuse.

The one-cap England international has completed more pass than any other Hull player in the Premier League this season (914), while he has also won possession in the midfield third more times than any other teammate (56).
