Kepa set for Chelsea stay with no buyers stepping forward
Kepa Arrizabalaga looks set to stay at Chelsea over the summer with Frank Lampard willing to give the world's most expensive goalkeeper another chance next season, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Chelsea broke the transfer record for goalkeepers in order to land Kepa from Athletic Club nearly two years ago but the Spain international has been extremely underwhelming for the west London outfit.
Kepa's reputation has nose-dived since signing for Chelsea for £72m and Lampard's side acknowledge they will struggle for buyers if they want to recoup as much of that fee as possible.
Chelsea still believe the 25-year-old is worth around £50m and any loan deal would have to prove costly with agreed option to buy at the end.
If, as expected, the financial implications of COVID-19 are severe around Europe then it will only reduce the amount of potential buyers further and now Lampard reluctantly accepts Kepa will still be at the club next season.
Chelsea have been linked with big money moves for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana and AC Milan No.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace Kepa for next season but those transfers are now off the table for the Blues.
Of goalkeepers that have made at least 10 appearances in the Premier League this season, Kepa has the worst save success rate, as revealed in our most ineffective XI for the division based on stats (56.8%).
