Dortmund poised to sign Leverkusen defender

Borussia Dortmund are set to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak next summer after activating his €12m (£10.2m) release clause, according to Bild, via Sport1.

Toprak, 27, has spent the five years with Leverkusen after joining from Freiburg in 2011 and has established himself as an important player for the Bundesliga side in that time.

However, he will reportedly join Dortmund at the end of the season after Thomas Tuchel’s side made the most of a buy-out clause in his contract, which has 18 months remaining.

The Turkey international has reportedly agreed a deal in principle with Dortmund that will keep him at the club until 2021.

Since joining Leverkusen the defender has picked up at least 10 more yellow cards than any other teammate in the Bundesliga (34).
