Ex-Liverpool target Fekir free to leave Lyon this summer

Lyon have agreement in principle with captain Nabil Fekir to sell the 2018 World Cup winner at the end of the season, claims L’Equipe.

Fekir was close to joining Liverpool last summer but a deal collapsed after the 25-year-old underwent his medical with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool had agreed a £53m deal with Lyon but failed in their attempts to re-structure the transfer.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas will not stand in Fekir’s way at the end of the season if he wants to join another club.

Fekir made six substitute appearances during France’s 2018 World Cup triumph and has struggled to rediscover the form that almost earned him a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool have struggled to create chances from deeper positions this season but it remains to be seen whether Klopp will rekindle his interest in the creator.

Fekir has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 23 league appearances this season and is the club’s second highest WhoScored rated player (7.29).
