Russian Premier League giants Zenit have confirmed the arrival of former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio on a free transfer.
Marchisio has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Zenit after being released by Juventus last month.
The 32-year-old joined Juventus at the age of seven and spent 13 seasons in the first-team but dropped out of the favour over the last few years.
Marchisio was briefly linked with a move to Manchester City but the Italy international has now secured a move to Zenit.
“I like the club and its ambition,” he told the club’s official website. “When I left Juventus, I promised that I wouldn’t move to another Italian team, so I wanted to find a club which shared my values.”
Marchisio only started 15 league matches during the 2016/17 campaign and was limited to just 15 Serie A appearances in total last term.
In the last two years up until the start of the current season, Juventus had a win ratio of 87.9% from the 33 Serie A matches Marchisio was involved, compared to just 69.8% from the 43 games he missed.
