Liverpool could challenge Manchester United and Real Madrid with a surprise move for Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho, claims The Independent.
Sancho has developed into one of the most sought after talents in world football over the last 12 months and is expected to make a big money return to the Premier League this summer.
United have been leading the charge for Sancho's signature since the turn of the year but it is thought their pursuit hinges on whether they can offer Champions League football next season.
The Red Devils are currently fifth in the Premier League but that may be enough to secure Champions League football if Manchester City's European ban is upheld.
Chelsea appear to have conceded defeat in the race to sign Sancho, who Dortmund are still determined to recoup at least €100m for, but Liverpool have not ruled out a move.
The news comes as a huge surprise after passing up on the chance to sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner due to concerns of matching his £54m release clause.
Werner had been holding out to join Liverpool but has now agreed to sign for Chelsea after Klopp's side made it clear they didn't want to spend so much money in the post-Coronavirus environment.
In order to prise Sancho from Dortmund it will take a much bigger offer than the fee Chelsea are on the verge of paying for Werner.
Sancho has remarkably played a direct hand in 33 goals in 27 league appearances this season, more than any other player in the Bundesliga.
