Man Utd target Kounde after Varane signing

Manchester United still want to sign Sevilla's Jules Kounde even after wrapping up a deal for Raphael Varane, claims The Daily Mail.

United made significant progress in a deal to sign Varane from Real Madrid over the weekend and are expected to sign the France international for around €45m.

Varane has entered the final year of his current Madrid contract and has expressed an interest in playing in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes Varane's arrival will transform United's fortunes at the back but he doesn't intend to stop there.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Varane's France team-mate, Kounde, and plan to sign him as well this summer.

Kounde, who is naturally a centre-back but can also step in at right-back, is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Tottenham were interested in a deal and reportedly even had a €30m plus Davinson Sanchez bid accepted before switching their attention to Atalanta's Cristian Romero.

Kounde was reportedly not overly keen on the prospect of joining Tottenham and is said to be holding out for a move to Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old still has three years left to run on his current Sevilla contract and the Spanish side are in no rush to cash in.

Kounde, who has a release clause of €80m, finished 2020/21 as the best rated centre-back in La Liga.
