Norwich starlet pledges long-term future to club

Norwich announced on Wednesday evening a new five-year deal for right-back Max Aarons running until the summer of 2024.

The 19-year-old still had four years left to run on his previous deal but Norwich have moved to end any uncertainty about his future at the club.

Aarons was linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the summer and had emerged as a potential target for Crystal Palace.

The Eagles are on the market for a new right-back following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure to United but will have to assess other targets now Aarons has pledged his future to Norwich.

“I’m delighted,” Aarons told the club’s official website. “Obviously it’s been a brilliant season for me personally and the team and to top it off with the new contract is brilliant.

“The club has shown a lot of faith in me since I first joined the first-team setup. For them to reward me with a new deal is brilliant.

“The progress [I’ve made] has been massive and gone really quickly. To think I was sat signing my first professional deal this time last year and being here now, it’s brilliant.

“Like I’ve said many times, I had goals but I didn’t foresee them being anytime like how it was last season.”

Aarons played an integral role in Norwich’s promotion from the Championship last season and news of his renewal is a huge boost for Daniel Farke’s side.

The England Under-19 international completed more dribbles than any other teenager in the Championship last season (56), while only Trevoh Chalobah (55) made more interceptions than Aarons (46) of all teens.
