Juventus have been left outraged after Zenit St. Petersburg pulled the plug on their deal to sign Alex Witsel in the final minutes of deadline day, according to The Guardian.
Witsel, 27, had passed his medical and signed his papers with Juventus and was waiting at the club’s training base for a reported 13 hours on Wednesday.
The deal hinged on whether Zenit could find a replacement for the Belgium international, which they ultimately failed to do.
Only Sergei Ignaschevich (4468) has completed more passes in the last four Russian Premier League campaigns than Witsel (4308).
