Everton have announced Bryan Oviedo has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the job until June 2019.
Oviedo, 25, had entered the final six months of the four-year deal he signed when he joined Everton from Copenhagen in 2012.
The Costa Rica international has endured an injury-hit career since making the switch to Everton but the versatile defender says he is determined to win a trophy with the Toffees.
“I am really happy to commit my future to Everton because this is a special club and, for me, a second home,” Oviedo told the club’s official website.
“When I experienced some really tough times, the toughest of my career, everybody was behind me – the manager, the staff, the players and the fans and that support helped me through and made me stronger, as a person and as a player.
“I feel that I am in my best moment of my career. I am experienced now. When I first came here I was 22 years old and now I am 25… 26 next week! I have greater confidence and I have a real ambition to win a trophy for Everton.”
Everton has lost just three of the 17 games Oviedo has started in the Premier League since August 2012 (47.1% win percentage) compared to a win ratio of 40.2% without him during that time.
