Former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo says he has no intentions of leaving Valencia, despite reports linking him with a move away from the Mestalla this summer.
The Spanish press have recently suggested that Negredo does not feature in Nuno’s long-term plans at Valencia, despite only making his season-long loan permanent at the end of last season.
However, the 29-year-old has refuted such claims, insisting his focus is on recapturing his best goalscoring form for Valencia next season.
“From the first day after last season ended my mind has been focused on Valencia,” the striker is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“I want to work and continue developing. My plan is to stay and nobody has said I’m not in their plans. At the end of the day the club decides and they choose who they want and who they don’t.
“But nobody has said to me they don’t want me. I’m really happy and relaxed and I want to give Valencia the best of myself. They’ve just exercised the purchase option and it would be strange, but in football anything can happen.”
Negredo spent last season on loan at the Mestalla from Manchester City, but was limited to just 14 starts and a further 16 appearances from the bench. Despite failing to nail down a regular starting berth, only five teammates scored more goals in La Liga than Negredo (5) last season.
