Roma summer signing suffers thigh injury

Roma have announced summer signing Patrik Schick has suffered a thigh injury.

Schick joined Roma from Sampdoria at the end of August in a deal that could be worth up to £39m if bonuses are met.

The 21-year-old endured a nightmare summer in an attempt to resolve his future and has now suffered another setback.

Schick was already ruled out of Roma’s match against his former club this weekend and now he is a serious doubt for next week’s match against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

“Patrik Schick underwent tests on Friday afternoon that revealed an oedema in his left quadriceps, evidence of a muscle strain that will be evaluated in more detail with further tests over the course of the next 48 hours,” a statement read on Roma’s official website.

Of players that have scored at least 10 Serie A goals since the start of last season, only new team-mate Gregoire Defrel (26.7%) has a better conversion rate than Schick (25.6%).
